八丁池に向かう野鳥の森を歩くこのコースでは、天ぷらにしても美味しいビョウブ、
コアジサイ、コシアブラ、柑橘系の香が爽やかなマツカゼソウ、自然のままのブナや
ヒメシャラなど、様々な野草や木々が見られます。
野鳥の森では年間を通じてコルソ・ウグイス・アカゲラ・マミジロ・エナガ・ホトトギス・
シジュウカラなど６４種の野鳥が飛びかいさえずっています。
ブナが生い茂るウグイス歩道、コマドリ歩道を抜けるとすぐ展望台です。
このハイキングコース上のお手洗いはバス停と見晴台前のみですので、こちらで必ずお済ませ下さい。
見晴台を抜けると幻想的な八丁池へ到着です。
池の畔には昭和５年６月に昭和天皇が訪れたことを記念して当時ふもとから運ばれた巨大な石碑、
行幸記念碑(テンヒツリュウショウの碑) があります。
八丁池からの復路は晴れた日には見晴らしのよいコルリのさえずりが爽やかな青スズ台を通り、
オオルリ歩道、コルリ歩道を抜けるコースです。
オオルリ歩道沿いにはブナとヒメシャラの木々がまるで抱き合って生えているような珍しい木々が見られます。
原生林を抜けると元の歩道へ戻り、バス停もすぐそこです。
八丁池ハイキングコースは湯ヶ島が晴天の日でも霧雨で肌寒い日がほとんどです。
雨具と上着の準備を忘れずにお出かけ下さい。
▽ アクセス 寒天橋よりバスの終点「八丁池ロ」までは専用バス以外は通行禁止となっております。
マイカーの場合は二階滝園地か水生地下の駐車場に入れて専用バスに乗らなくてはなりません。
バスは運行日が限られておりますので必ずご確認下さい。
□ 伊豆の踊子の足跡を訪ねて
ノーベル賞作家、川端康成は、天城を旅した時の体験から「伊豆の踊子」を著し、
その後も度々天城を訪れては友人作家たちとの交流を楽しんだそうです。
「伊豆の踊子」は、湯ヶ島から天城峠を越えて湯ヶ野を経由し、
下田に至る４泊５日の旅路が記されております。
天城には旧天城トンネルや主人公が宿泊した旅館など一行が歩いた道が今でも残されており、
伊豆の踊子の記念碑や天城ならではの美しい情景をお楽しみ頂けます。
この機会に、伊豆の踊子が歩いたノスタルジックな旅路を小説の主人公になった気分で
歩いてみてはいかがでしょうか。

□ 伊豆の踊子文学碑
踊子橋を渡ると、左手に伊豆の踊子文学碑があります。
碑には川端康成のレリーフと「道がつづら折りになっていよいよ天城峠が近づいたと思うころ雨足が
杉の密林を白く染めながらすさまじい早さで麓からわたしを追って来た。」
という伊豆の踊子の冒頭部分が刻まれております。
ここより旧天城トンネルまでのつづら折りの道はブナやカエデの木々が
自然のままに生い茂り、伊豆の踊子の世界そのものです。
□旧天城トンネル
夏でもひんやりとした全長446mのトンネル内は、明治38年当時の形相をそのまま残し、
平成１３年６月には国の重要文化財に指定されました。
小説の中で雨宿りをした茶屋はこの近くにあったと言われています。

On your way to Haccho-Ike Pond through those walk-ways, you would find various wild plants and grasses such as small hydrangea, beech trees.
64 kinds of birds live in “The Forest of Wild Birds, and are singing with beautiful voice all year around.
Beyond Komadori walk-way and Uguisu walk-way surrounded by wild beech trees, you will find Mihatasi-Dai (Viewing place). Please remember that there are only two public toilets, here and at Haccho-okeguchi Bus stop on the hiking course.
After Miharashi-Dai, you will see beautiful Haccho-Ike Pond finally. A memorial monument for Showa Emperor's visit in June 1930 brought from Amagi town stands by the pond.
On the homeward walk on sunny day, please walk up to the top of Aosuzu-Dai (Aosuzu hill) to see a fine view and walk through Ooruri walk-way and Koruri walk-way. You would find some unique trees, beech trees and Himesyara trees grown together as one tree.
Beyond the forest, you will see Haccho-Ike Bus stop soon. Even on sunny day in Yugashima, mostly it should be drizzling and colder on the hiking course.
Please remember to bring a rain apparel and an outer wear.

Cars are not available to pass through the way from Kantenbashi to Haccho-Ike Bus stop except public buses. Private cars must be parked at Nikai-Daruenchi parking or Suisyouchi-Shita parking. Buses operate during particular periods. Please contact the bus company for the further information.
□ Explorer the trail of 'Izu no Odoriko'
A great author nominated for the Nobel Prize wrote 'Izu no Odoriko' from his journey in Amagi and he often visited here for friendship with the other authors.
In the novel 'Izu no Odoriko', he wrote about a journey from Yugashima to Shimoda via Yugano for 4 nights 5 days. Many places in the novel, such as Old Amagi Tunnel, the way Odoriko walked and the monuments are still remained in Amagi and you can feel the nostalgic atmosphere and image beautiful scenes.
Please walk the picturesque way to feel as it is in Izu no Odoriko’s world.

□ Izu no Odoriko Monument
Over the Odoriko Bridge, you can find the Izu no Odoriko monument on your left.
A phrase by Yasunari Kawabata, beginning of Izu no Odoriko, meaning like 'When I arrived close to Amagi through switchback, suddenly wisp of rain started and cedar forests are covered with white from the hill.' carved on the monument.
Beech and maple trees grow in the unspoiled forest on the switchback. It is just the Izu no Odoriko's nostalgic world.
□ Old Amagi Tunnel
446m long cool tunnel even in summer still remains some remnants from 1963 and it was designated as a national important cultural property in 2001.
There is a tea house where Odoriko hided from rain in the novel.
