2004年４月１日より、伊豆市の一部として新たなスタートを切った天城湯ヶ島。
伊豆市の面積は133万km、人工約38000人。伊豆半島の市町村の中では最も広い市である。
山の町として質の良い、スギ、ヒノキ、ツガなどの森林に覆われ、
山の中を流れる清流では、伊豆名物のワサビが盛んに栽培されている。
□ 善名寺（ぜんみょうじ） TOPへ
伊豆にある温泉の中で最も古い吉名温泉に奈良時代に建立された大変古いお寺です。
吉奈を開湯した僧侶 行基が創建
奈良時代に行基が彫ったと伝えられる御本尊の薬師如来をはじめ、釈迦如来、
毘沙門天などの素晴らしい仏像が伝えられている。

□ 明徳寺 TOPへ
室町時代の明徳年間(1390～94)に創建された曹洞宗のお寺です
東司（とうす）（便所）の神様の守護神、烏彗沙摩明応（うすさまみょうおう）祀る。
自然木の「おまたぎ」など下（しも）の健康を願います。

□ 弘道寺 TOPへ
1857（安政４）年、米国使節タウンゼント・ハリス一行が宿泊した禅寺。
本堂にハリスの使用したイスや食器類が保存され、
境内にハリスの日記の一節を刻んだ 記念碑があります。

□ 天城温泉会館 TOPへ
天城を象徴する温泉と文学のミュージアム。
各種の入浴施設をはじめ、水着で利用する大浴場や洞窟風呂なども配した温泉館と、
木下順二の「夕鶴」を舞台資料や映像で紹介する夕鶴記念館。
それに天城にちなむ演目を随時公演する天城劇場を中心に構成。
天城特産市や和風レストランもある。

天城会館の中の記念館。
戯曲「夕鶴」の原作者である木下順二と主役をつとめて1037回も上映した山本安英が
湯ヶ島温泉をなじみにしていたところから開かれたもので、木下順二の原稿や資料、
山本安英の舞台衣装や台本、遺品などを展示している。
ビデオシアターもあり、「夕鶴」の解説と舞台のハイライトシーンが上映されている。

□ 浄蓮の滝 TOPへ
踊り子と”私”の「踊り子の像」が立つ脇から、ちょっと急な石段を渡って下っていく。
下ったところに緑を敷き詰めたようなワサビ田があり、
その左奥に浄蓮の滝が流れ落ち、轟きが静寂感をさそっている。
天城第１の滝と称され、滝の高さ25m、幅7mとさほと大きくはないが、
垂直な崖を下る様ななかなかの迫力に、観光客の姿か耐えない。
ワサビ田には直売所があり、天城名産の山葵をお土産に買うこともできる。

□ 浄蓮の滝資料館 TOPへ
バス停の近くにあり、周辺の地質、自然、歴史、文化などの資料を展示。
浄蓮の滝に生息している昆虫や、そこに茂っている植物の解説もあり、わかりやすい。

□ 世古峡 TOPへ
狩野川と猫越川の合流点から、猫越川の上流１kmほどを呼んでいる。
谷を覆う樹木は 新緑紅葉が格別に美しい。
□ 水恋鳥広場 TOPへ
狩野川の渓流に面した広場。
７月下旬～８月下旬にマスのつかみ取りとバーベキューが楽しめる。
「伊豆の奥天城の山を夜越えぬ淋しき事になれはてぬれば」の与謝野晶子碑も立っている。
湯ヶ島からバスで５分 水恋鳥広場下車
□ 旧天城トンネル TOPへ
旧天城トンネルは標高800m地点にある。
天城峠バス停からも登れるが、’踊子’情緒を味わいたい人は
水生地下から九十九折りの坂道を歩く方がいい。
途中は杉、桧、栂が茂り、視界は開けない。もっぱら踊子や’私’の心を訪ねる旅である。
トンネルは明治38年(1905)に開通した全長446m。
昭和45年に新道が開通するまでは、この狭い道とトンネルをバスも走っていた。
今はもっぱらマイカーの道で、静寂
が保たれている。
□ 河津七滝 TOPへ
河津川上流の天城峠から湯ヶ野にかけて大小さまざまな滝が落ちている。
このうち、水垂から梨本の間にある七つの滝を「河津七滝」と呼んでいる。
最も大きな大滝でも高さ30mで、スケールは大きくないが、それぞれ違った形と
風情を持っている。歩くには全コース下りになる水垂バス停からが楽である。
河津では滝のことを’垂水（たるみ）’から変化した’タル（ダル）’と
平安時代から 呼んでいるそうである。
□ 二階滝 TOPへ
八丁池へのバス道が分かれる寒天橋の少し下流にある。
高さ20mの滝が2段になって落ち、 涼味を誘っている。
バス停付近には二階滝園地になっていて、休憩舎とトイレ、駐車場がある。
□ 平滑の滝 TOPへ
美しいワサビ田の先の鉄の橋を渡ったすぐ下にある。
幅20m、高さ4mの滝で大きな 一枚岩を滑り落ちている。

□ 宗太郎園地 TOPへ
二本杉峠への分かれ道に大きなもみの木がそびえ、根元に石仏がまつられている。
休憩舎もあって、一息入れるのにうってつけ。
ここから南へ、明治10年(1877)に植えた 美しい杉並木が続いている。

□ 月ヶ瀬梅園 TOPへ
花見と梅狩り、2度楽しめる絶景の梅園。約1,500本の梅の樹に、真冬の2月には梅の花
が雪景色のように美しく咲き誇り、早春の風を呼んでいます。
品種は「南高」「白加賀」ほか10種類ほど。又、もぎたての青梅とグラニュー糖のみ
を原料にした梅シロップを生産し、市の観光土産として広く紹介しています。
毎年6月中旬には約10日間、観光梅の実狩りを開催しています。
入場無料とあって、天城連山を眺めながらピクニック気分で楽しめます。
もぎ取った梅の実は、1kgあたり400円で持ち帰ることができます。

□ 七滝温泉 TOPへ
河津七滝バス停付近やその奥に旅館や民宿が点在するところで、
河津七滝ハイキングの基地になっている。
・大滝
全長30m、幅7mを誇る河津七滝の中で最大の滝です。
・出合滝
支流との合流点に長さも幅も2mの滝が二段になって落ちている。
・釜滝
水垂バス停から長くて急な石段を下ったところにある。
美しい模様を見せる玄武岩の崖を流れる。高さ22m、幅2m。
・えび滝
釜滝からつり橋を二つ渡ったところにある。
エビの尾ヒレに似ていると言われる。高さ5m、幅2mの滝。
・蛇滝
周囲にある柱状節理の玄武岩が蛇のウロコに似ているというので
名付けられた滝。高さ3m、幅2m。
・初景滝
ここに「踊子と私」が腰掛けている像があり、
記念写真を撮る名所になっている。高さ10m、幅7m。
・かに滝
桜並木の舗装道路を歩いた下流側にある高さ2m、幅1mの小さな滝。
白い瀑布と周囲の緑の調和が美しい。
□ 湯ヶ野温泉 TOPへ
河津川に面して旅館が並ぶところ。川端康成の「伊豆の踊子」の重要な舞台で、
ゆかりの福田屋の前には、' 踊子像’その横には '伊豆の踊子文学碑’もある。
□ 大滝温泉 TOPへ
高さ30m、幅7mの七滝最大の滝があり、そこから温泉が湧いている。
天城荘管理の穴風呂や、河原の露天風呂、プールの湯など、30種の湯が楽しめる。
□ 天城のワサビ田 TOPへ
天城の特産品、ワサビ。ピリッとした味は天下一品。
・清く冷たい水と気候が安定したところで栽培できる。
・アブラナ科の多年草、苗を植えてから一年半から二年かかり収穫。
・春には白い美しい花でワサビ田が覆われる。
天城のワサビ田は、江戸時代に湯ヶ島の板垣勘四郎をいう人が椎茸の栽培法と交換に、
現在の静岡市の安倍川から移植したのが始まり。全国一の生産地として知られる。
「ワサビはさしみのつまとなり、私はあなたの妻になる。
あなたはワサビに泣いて、 私はあなたに泣く。」
□ いのしし村 TOPへ
自然が豊かに残るこの伊豆半島は全国有数のイノシシの生息地で有名。
その伊豆ならではの施設。猪専門の動物園で、
園内には猪の放牧場のほか、猪の
産室、子猪の遊び場、
それに猪のことなら何でもわかる猪博物館「ぼあぼあ」もある。
呼び物は世界でここだけという猪の演芸、輪くぐりやサッカーの熱演を見せてくれる。
コミカルなタヌキのショー、ゼッケンを付けた猪が走るレースも人気を集めている。
国道に面してドライブインもあり、一年中シシ鍋を食べることもできる。

□ 昭和の森会館 TOPへ
昭和天皇の存位50周年を記念して、天城峠や八丁池の一帯1600haが昭和の森に指定され、
健全なレクリエーションの場として解放されている。
現在昭和の森を含め、全国に８箇所の 昭和の森がある。
その中心施設が昭和の森会館で、森林博物館、伊豆近代文学博物館、
天城グリーンガーデン、レストランなどがある。
・森林博物館
天城に生息する動植物の全てを模型やパネル、ビデオを駆使してわかりやすく解
説している。
・伊豆近代文学博物館
井上靖ら伊豆出身の作家と、伊豆を舞台にした作品を発表した文学者約120名の資料を展示している。
「伊豆の踊子」の肉筆の原稿もあり、映画化された「伊豆の踊子」の
歴大女優展示コーナーが人気を集めている。
・天城グリーンガーデン
博物館とは国道を隔てた東側にある自然公園。
約54,072・の園内にはシャクナゲ園地や 野鳥の小道、モミの木の森、ツツジの
道などがあり、
森林浴が楽しめるほか、フィールド アスレチックや全長60mのソリ遊びもできる。

□ About Yugashima TOP
On 1st of April in 2004, Amagi Yugashima was united into Izu city. The population is about 38,000 in 1.33 million k㎡, the largest city in Izu peninsula. There are abundant natural forests of cedar, cypress and hemlock fir and famous for Wasabi fields along mountain stream.
□ Zenmyo-Ji Temple TOP
An old temple constructed in the Nara period (8C.) in Yoshina hot spring resort, where is the oldest region in Izu peninsula.
A monk,Gyoki opened the hot spring built the temple here.
It was a large temple in the Edo period (17-18C.) and famous for a legend that Oman, a concubine of Ieyasu Tokugawa visited -for having a baby.
The present building is re-constructed in 1921. Beautiful images of Buddha by Gyoki are still reminded in the temple from 8C.

□ Meitoku-Ji Temple TOP
・A temple of Soto Zen Buddhism established in Meitoku period(139-1394) in Muromachi era.
・It worships Ususama-Meiou as the god of toilet (called Tousu).
・People visit here to wish healthy excretion.
・They have a festival, called the Touji Festival on 28th of August.
（Might be only this temple which has a festival of toilet in Japan.)

□ Koudou-Ji Temple TOP
A Zen temple which Townsend Harris, an American ambassador stayed in 1857. Chairs and utensils used by him are preserved in the main hall and a monument, carved a line from Harris ‘s diary of, stands in the precincts.

□ Amagi Onsen Kaikan TOP
This museum introduces hot springs and the literatures in Amagi. It has some public baths such as hot spring hall with a large bath for usage with swim wear and a cave bath.Yuuzuru (crane at dusk) Memorial Museum which displays the related information with Yuuzuru written by Jyunji Kinoshita with the pictures and videos, and the Amagi Theater which has performances related with Amagi. Also Japanese cuisine restaurants and some souvenir shops offer local products in Amagi.

Located in the Amagi Onsen Kaikan.
Yasuhide Yamamoto who acted the main character 1037 times on the stage of Yuuzuru with the author, Yasushi Kinoshita, who had familiarity with Yugashima and opened the museum. The original manuscripts written by Jyunji Kinoshita, the information and the stage garments and the acting scripts by Yasuhide Yamamoto , and the personal mementos of them are displayed. It has a theater and shows the detailed commentary of Yuuzuru and the highlight of stage.

□ Zyoren-No-Taki Waterfalls TOP
As walking down steep stone steps from beside the monument of Odoriko, you would see Zyoren Waterfalls on the left side of the deep-green Wasabi fieldand which creates the sense of serenity. Although it is not a big scale size with 25m in height and 7m in width, many people visit here to see the impressive view of waterfalls flushing through the cliff. Also they offer the flesh Wasabi made in Amagi at a farm stand.

□ Zyoren-No-Taki Waterfalls Reference Center TOP
Located near the bus stop and geological condition of its surroundings information, the nature, the history and the culture are introduced. They also offer comprehensive detailed commentary of insects and plants.

□ Seko-Kyo Ravine TOP
It is about 1 km area around the junction of Kano and Nekko rivers to the upper Nekko river. The best walk way is around the Kidachi-Sou. You would be attracted to the beauty of fresh green and autumn color of leaves.
□ Mizukoidori Park TOP
A park along Kano river. You can enjoy capturing trout and barbecue. Also the monument of Akiko Yosano which is carved her poem stands in the park.

□ Old Amagi Tunnel TOP
Old Amagi Tunnel is located at a height of 800m, can be accessed from the Amagi bus stop. To feel “Odoriko”mood, walking from the Suishouchi-Shitabus stop would be more interesting.. Cedar, cypress and hemlock fir's forest interfere with the all-round view. This is the journey to explorer 'Odoriko' and 'Myself'. The 446m long tunnel was opened in 1905, in the Meiji period and buses used to pass through such a narrow tunnel until 1912, when new tunnel was opened. Nowadays only private cars can go through this tunnel, which has so quiet and nostalgic mood.
□ Kawazu Nanadaru Waterfalls TOP
There are a range of waterfalls from Amagi around the upper Kano river to Yugashima. 7 waterfalls of them between Suisyou and Nashimoto, are called ' Kawazu 7 Waterfalls'. Although the scale is not so big, as in the biggest waerfall is 30 m in height, each of waterfall has their original form and special atmosphere. If you prefer to easy walking, the walking way from Mizudaru bus stop has all gradual descent.
□ Nikai-Daru Waterfalls TOP
Located at lower place of the Kanten-bashi bridge, at a junction of bus road to Haccho-ike pond. 20m in height of 2 falls make cool atmosphere in summer. A resting-place, toilet and parking are facilitated in the Nikaidaru field near the bus stop.
□ Hiraname-Daru Waterfall TOP
Located beside a steel bridge down from a fresh green Wasabi field. 20m in width and 4m in height waterfall is running down a monolith.

□ Soutarou-Enchi Field TOP
A big fir tree stands at a turning point to the Nihonsugi(Two ceders) pass and a stone Buddhist image is enshrined at the bottom of the tree. There is a resting-place and is a good spot to have a break. The beautiful cedar forest, planted in 1877, lines up to the southern.

□ Tsukigase Ume Park TOP
Here is an Ume(Japanese apricot) park for picking Ume with the glorious view.
About 1,200 Ume trees have the beautiful white flowers like snow scene every February and wave in the breeze in early spring.
10 kinds of trees such as 'Nankou' and 'Shiro-Kaga' are grown.
Naturally condensed Ume juice made of fresh Umes and the Amagi natural water is a speciality in Amagi.
In middle of June, free Ume picking for the tourists is held.
Everyone can enjoy the Ume picking freely like a picnic. You take out picked Ume for 300 yen per 1kg.

Some Ryokans and Inns dot around Kawazu Nanadaru bus stop and it is known as the base of Kawazu hiking course.

It is the largest of the 7 waterfalls in Kawazu Nanadaru with overall 30m length and 7m wide.
・Deai-Daru (The Meeting Waterfalls)
At a junction of rivers, 2m in length and the width double-waterfalls are running down.
・Kama-Daru Waterfall
Located at the bottom of hill from Mizudare bus stop.It is running down on the basaltic cliff of beautiful pattern. 22m in height and 2m in width.
・Ebi-Daru Waterfall(The Prawn Waterfall)
Located at over the suspension bridge from Kama-Daki and it looks like prawn's caudal fin.
・Hebi-Daru Waterfall(The Snake Waterfall)
Called Hebi-Daki, means Snake Waterfall from the columnar joint basalt with the pattern like snake's scale around the waterfall.
・Syokei-Daru Waterfall
Here is an ideal spot to take a picture for the tourists with the monument of 'Odoriko-To-Watashi'. The waterfall is 10m in height and 2m in width.
・Kani-Daru Waterfall
2m in height and 1m in width of small Waterfall beside paved road along cherry blossom trees. You can see the beautiful white waterfall and fresh green.
□ Yugano Hot Spring TOP
Yugano, Ryokans’ area along Kawazu river, is famous as the stage in 'Izu No Odoriko' by Yasunari Kawabata. There is 'The Odoriko Statue' in front of Fukuda-Ya, a Ryokan related with 'Izu no Odoriko', and 'The monument of Izu no Odoriko' stands beside the Ryokan.
□ Ootaki Hot Spring TOP
The hot spring springs from the biggest 30m in heigh and 7m width waterfall in Kawazu 7 Waterfalls. There are 30 kinds of baths such as a cave bath, an open-air bath along rivers and a pool bath.
□ Wasabi Fields in Amagi TOP
Wasabi is a special product in Amagi. The piquant taste is the best in Japan.
・Clear, cold water and mild climate are required to grow.
・A kind of brassicaceous perennials and they are harvested 1 or 2 years from the planted.
・Beautiful white flowers cover the Wasabi field in spring.
The beginning of the Wasabi cultivation in Amagi was started in the Edo period, Kanshirou Itagaki brought Wasabi into Amagi from Abekawa in Shizuoka-city in exchange for the cultivation method of shiitake mushroom. Amagi is known as the best production district for Wasabi in Japan.
□ Inoshishi Mura (Wild Boar Park) TOP
Izu peninsula surrounded by abundant nature is famous as a boar habitat. There is an unique boar's animal park, which has a ranch, a birthing room, a play ground for the little boars and a museum of boar, called 'Boa-Boa'. The main attraction is boar acrobat.Boars performance jumping through a circle and a enthusiastic soccer game. Also a comical raccoon dog’s performance and wild boars’ race are very popular. There is a drive-in along the road and boar's pot is available all year round.

□ Showa No Mori Kaikan TOP
1600ha area around Amagi mountain and Haccho pond is designated as Showa No Mori, meaning 'Treasurable nature from the Showa period', as the 50 years anniversary from the accession of Emperor Showa and opened for public as a recreation center.
It is one of the 8 regions of Showa No Mori in Japan. The main attraction is the Showa No Mori Kaikan, which has a museum called the Izu modern literature museum. Also there is a park called Amagi green garden and some restaurants are available.

They display detailed information of all wild animals and plants in Amagi with panels and videos.
・Izu Modern Literature Museum
They offer information of about 120 authors, who has written books related with Izu or who is from Izu including Yasushi Inoue, are displayed. It also has the original script of Izu no Odoriko and an exhibit space of past actress in the movie, Izu no Odoriko is especially popular.
・Amagi Green Garden
A natural park located in the south across the road from the museums. The rhododendron field, the walk way for the wild birds and fir plantation are in the 54,072㎡ garden and one can enjoy the forest bathing and field athletics such as the 60m long sleighing.
