■ 与謝野晶子(Akiko Yosano)　　

(1878-1942)
与謝野晶子は明治11年（1878年）大阪堺市の老舗の羊かん屋の3女として生まれました。
封建道徳を批判し、人間の開放を詠った明治を代表する女性歌人です。
堺女学校を卒業し、女学校時代から日本文学に親しみ家事を手伝いながら、
帳場に坐って 寸暇をさいて『源氏物語』などをひもといたそうです。
明治34年、来阪した与謝野鉄幹と出合って新詩社に加わり、翌年には鉄幹との結婚のため家を捨てる等、
私生活における彼女の生き方も作品と同じく情熱的だったそうです。
雑誌「明星」に「旅順口包囲軍の中に在る弟を嘆きて」を発表し、議論を呼んだ一件は有名です。 　
才能豊かであった彼女は明星派の中心的歌人として浪漫的、夢幻的作品を数多く発表し、近代短歌に影響を与えたほか、
日露戦争の熱狂の中、女性の立場から否戦の感情を表わした詩 「君死にたもうことなかれ」を発表。
晩年には現代語訳「新々訳源氏物語」を残す等、 教育事業にも携わりました。
一方、家庭では11人の子の母、鉄幹の妻として大正、昭和の動乱期を生きた華やかにも美しい 浪漫詩人です。

「伊豆の奥天城の山を夜越えぬ寂しき事になれはてぬれば」
天城温泉郷を訪ねた与謝野晶子が詠んだ一句は、
下田街道（国道４１４号）沿い湯ケ島温泉を過ぎたあたりの水恋鳥広場にございます。

■ Akiko Yosano(与謝野晶子)　　

(1878-1942)
She was born in 1878 in Sakai-city, Oosaka-pref as the third girl in a family running an old sweet bean jelly shop.
She is a representing woman poet in Meiji era who criticized the feudal society and insisted on human rights. Since she was a student of women's school in Sakai, she loved reading Japanese literature such as tale of Genji at the counter while helping housework. In 1959, she met Tessyuu Yosano moved to Oosaka and joined to Shinshi Co.. Next year he left her hometown to get marry with him, so her private life was very passionate like her works. It is a famous squall that she published a poem of surge of affection to her youngerbrother in the war on Myojo magazine. She composed many romantic and dreamy poems as a main poet of Myojo with her outstanding talent and influenced the modern Tanka. Also she published a poem with agony in the war and contributed to the educational field with Tale of Genji in modern speech. Meanwhile she was a tough mother of 11 kids and wife of Tessyuu. She lived through the disturbed time in Showa era greatly as a romantic poet and beautiful woman.
